ITINERARY
Morning – Arrival in Paro
- Arrive at Paro International Airport by Druk Air flight.
- A warm reception will be arranged to welcome you.
– Drive to Thimphu
- After lunch, proceed by car to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital city.
- The drive offers scenic views of valleys and rivers along the way.
Evening – Explore Thimphu
- Take a leisurely stroll through Thimphu town, exploring its shops, cafés, and vibrant local atmosphere.
Night Halt – Thimphu Stay
- Overnight stay in Thimphu, resting up for the journey ahead.
Morning – Cultural & Spiritual Exploration
- Visit the Memorial Chorten, a stupa built in honor of the Third King, a place of daily devotion for locals.
- Explore the Bhutan Textile Museum, showcasing exquisite weaving traditions.
- Step into the Folk Heritage Museum, a restored traditional house that offers insight into Bhutanese rural life.
Midday – Learning & Tradition
- Visit the National Library, home to ancient manuscripts and Buddhist texts.
- Explore the School of Fine Arts (Zorig Chusum), where students train in Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts and crafts.
- Stop at the Institute of Traditional Medicine, where herbal remedies and ancient healing practices are preserved.
Afternoon – Dzongs & Monasteries
- Tour Tashichodzong, the seat of the Royal Government and summer residence of the Chief Abbot.
- Visit Zilukha Nunnery, a serene monastery where nuns practice and preserve Buddhist teachings.
Evening – Craftsmanship & Shopping
- Discover the Traditional Handmade Paper Factory, where ancient papermaking techniques are still used.
- Browse the Handicrafts Emporium, a treasure trove of Bhutanese art, textiles, and souvenirs.
Night Halt – Thimphu Stay
- Overnight stay in Thimphu, after a full day immersed in Bhutan’s culture, spirituality, and craftsmanship.
Morning – Scenic Drive via Dochu La Pass
- Depart Thimphu and drive toward Punakha.
- Cross Dochu La Pass (3,050 m), which offers panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges on clear days.
- The pass is also marked by 108 chortens (stupas), adding a spiritual dimension to the journey.
Afternoon – Punakha Dzong
- Arrive in Punakha and visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, once the winter capital of Bhutan.
- Situated at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, it is celebrated for its stunning architecture, vibrant murals, and historical significance.
Night Halt – Punakha Stay
- Overnight stay in Punakha, surrounded by the serene beauty of the valley.
Morning – Wangdue Phodrang Dzong
- After breakfast, drive down the valley to view the Wangdue Phodrang Dzong, dramatically located on a ridge overlooking the river junction.
- The fortress is historically significant and offers commanding views of the surrounding valleys.
Midday – Return to Thimphu
- Continue the drive back to Thimphu.
- Arrive in time for lunch in the capital city.

- Free time in the afternoon to explore Thimphu at your own pace.
- Options include shopping for handicrafts, meeting locals, or enjoying the city’s cafés and bars.

Morning – Drive to Paro
- After breakfast, drive from Thimphu to Paro.
- En route, stop at Semtokha Dzong, the oldest dzong in Bhutan, built in 1629. It is renowned for its intricate carvings and spiritual significance.
Afternoon – Sacred and Cultural Sites
- After lunch, visit Kichu Monastery (Kichu Lhakhang), one of Bhutan’s oldest temples dating back to the 8th century. It is said to be one of the 108 temples built by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo.
- Continue to Ta-Dzong, which houses Bhutan’s National Museum, displaying art, artifacts, and natural history.
- Visit Rinpung Dzong, a fortress-monastery with striking architecture and rich history, overlooking the Paro valley.
Evening – Local Market Exploration
- Stroll through Paro’s local market, browsing handicrafts, textiles, and Bhutanese souvenirs.

Morning – Drukgyel Dzong and Mount Jhomolhari
- After breakfast, drive to the newly renovated Drukgyel Dzong, the fortress where Bhutanese forces defeated joint Tibetan-Mongol invasions in the 1700s.
- On clear days, enjoy a spectacular view of Mount Jhomolhari (7,314 m), revered as the abode of Goddess Jhomo.
Midday – Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest)
- Return to Satsam Chorten and begin the hike to the legendary Taktsang Monastery, dramatically perched on a 1,000 m cliff face.
- This sacred site is one of Bhutan’s most iconic landmarks, where Guru Rinpoche is believed to have meditated.
Afternoon – Bhutanese Farmhouse Experience
- End the day with a visit to a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse, offering a glimpse into the daily life of local farmers.
